Sharing Okinawan Tradition Worldwide:
Shihan Jason & Hanshi Kiyoshi Nishime Teach Yamanni-Ryu in Romania
From June 18–23, Hanshi Kiyoshi Nishime and Shihan Jason Nishime brought the rich tradition of Okinawan Yamanni-Ryu weapons training to Romania for the Fudokan Summer Gashuku, a premier international martial arts event drawing students and instructors from across Europe.
Representing Nishime Martial Arts of Cincinnati and Florence, the father-son duo were invited to teach specialized seminars in Yamanni-Ryu, a centuries-old Okinawan weapon art known for its flowing movement, deep stances, and powerful technique with weapons such as the bo (staff), kama, sai, and nunchaku.

Throughout the weeklong seminar, Shihan Jason and Hanshi Nishime led intensive training sessions focused on:
- Yamanni-Ryu bo, sai, nunchaku, and kama kata
- Traditional Okinawan weapon theory and application
- Body mechanics, timing, and advanced flow drills
- Sharing the cultural roots and philosophy behind the art
Their sessions were attended by martial artists of all ranks and backgrounds, eager to experience authentic Yamanni-Ryu instruction from two of its most respected teachers.
The event highlighted not only their deep knowledge, but their commitment to preserving and spreading traditional martial arts worldwide, a mission that continues right here at home in Cincinnati, Ohio and Florence, Kentucky.
