Team Nishime had a busy summer on the competition mats in both karate and
jiujitsu. From local events to major international tournaments, the team has racked up 253
medals and counting. We are proud of all our athletes and would like to highlight two
individuals who had exceptional performances this year.
Deshi Cole from Florence won his kumite division at nationals again and immediately
flew to Scotland to represent the USA at the WUKF world championships. He was able to earn
silver in both the lightweight and open weight kumite divisions, as well as a bronze in team
kumite. Deshi Cole had to overcome some major adversity this season with a major injury that
would keep most people off the mats. He had an outstanding performance in Scotland fighting
11 matches in one day.
Paige from Cincinnati had an excellent season as well. She has shown a lot of
improvement from last year taking gold, silver and 2 bronze at nationals. Paige also represented
team USA in Scotland earning a silver medal in kobudo. As a first year black belt competitor
she’s earned an impressive 29 medals.
Our entire team puts in lots of hard work and dedication to reach these goals.
Congratulations to everyone willing to put themselves out there.
